Next week, I’ll be joined by Kellie Tinnin, President and Founder of a learning and development consulting firm based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Kellie specializes in performance improvement and organizational development, and offers valuable entrepreneurial insights, stressing the importance of adaptability, seeking diverse perspectives, and building a supportive network. We’ll be discussing the challenges faced in entrepreneurship, such as the need to overcome the fear of not knowing everything and the significance of recognizing that one is not alone in facing these obstacles, the the vital role of humility, vulnerability, and kindness in effective leadership; and more.

"Employees today don't just want to go to work and punch a time clock and produce an output. They want to understand what the bigger picture is and how their role fits into that bigger picture and have a little bit of purpose and meaning."

- Kellie Tinnin

My next guest, on 7th February, will be Jimi Okubanjo, director and producer of the documentary film "Arise Firebird: Women of Color Transcending and Finding Joy at Work," Jimi will be sharing the story behind what inspired her to make the film, including her own experiences with workplace trauma, and gives us important insights into the challenges faced by underrepresented professionals in the workplace. With a background spanning over 20 years in operations and management consulting, including roles as a Chief Operating Officer (COO) in a large engineering company in London, Jimi's goal is to shed light on the reality of being a woman of color in the professional world, to encourage better conversations among employers, and advocate for workplaces where individuals can thrive and find joy without compromising their dignity. Through "Arise Firebird," Jimi aims to address issues of toxic work environments and promote inclusivity and respect for all professionals, emphasizing that competency should not be a prerequisite for dignity at work. We’ll also be chatting about her positive experiences of leadership, and our shared love of Star Trek!

On the 14th Feb, I’ll be joined by William Yeske, a US Army combat veteran, Social Entrepreneur, Business Owner, and Author of the book “Damn the Valley”. In this conversation, William will be talking about his background and experiences, primarily in the military, discussing growing up in a small New England town, his exposure to his father's business and later transitioning to Motorsports and then the Army. He will be sharing stories from his military deployment experience, the challenges faced, the high casualty rate, and later his need to document those experiences for the historical record. We’ll also be talking about the importance of discipline instilled in the military and its application in civilian life, hearing about both the serious and humorous aspects of military life, and William’s general perspective on life, leadership, and military service.

“So he [the cook] put a lock on it and everything and that night myself and weapon squad. We went out there and cut the locks because we have been told there was these big five gallon drums of Ben and Jerry's. We straight up took on the five gallon pail of cookies and cream and we got so sick afterwards. But it was just one of those things. It's a good moment. You’re just guys all sitting around and the cook had no idea, racked out somewhere. We're just laughing about it. Of course the next morning he finds out.. we just laughed that off!”

- William Yeske

Last one for our sneak preview look ahead, will be Episode 95 on 21st February, when I’ll be joined by Derick Johnson, a Veteran-turned-Life Coach, who now helps people break old patterns to thrive, not just survive. Derick will be talking to us about the importance of an effective morning routine for mental and physical well-being, how he draws from his athletic and military background, advocates waking up early, and other tips to get the most from your day. He believes in optimizing our attention spans and reducing distractions, suggesting we all set digital boundaries to enhance focus and productivity. We’ll be discussing why Derick sees athletes, those who have overcome challenges, and sales professionals as the people who most often excel in personal and professional development (among his clients, at least!). We also talk about his leadership experiences, the need for a balance between competitiveness and teamwork, and the varying roles of delegation and teaching to enhance leadership skills.

And let’s not forget this week’s episode with Libby Vincent too:

Ep.91: Why Most Leadership Advice Doesn't Work For Women in leadership, with Libby Vincent

This week, Libby discusses her journey to helping women in leadership, how her initial involvement stemmed from her role in combining executive teams post-mergers. While assisting in onboarding new executives, she observed disparities in how men and women navigated these challenges. The books, advice, and processes that worked for men seemed to fall short for women, impacting their ability to build influence, credibility, and trust within their teams.

Motivated by the lack of readily available information that would help women in leadership, Libby delved into academic papers, uncovering decades of research highlighting the unique experiences of women in large organizations.

Recognizing the unfair gap between available information and practical insights, through her company Hodology, Libby aims to bridge this divide, support women in leadership roles and encourage a more diverse and balanced perspective in executive teams. To listen to the full episode click here!
